The wetlands of eastern Ladakh The fresh and saltwater lakes which dot Ladakh's eastern border with Tibet are places of hallucinatory beauty. Long protected by remoteness and security sensitivities, the wetlands are home to rare species including the snow leopard and Tibetan wild ass, as well as nomadic tribes. Over the last decade the arrival of tourism has begun to affect the fragile ecosystems of the area.
