Darwin's Beer Can Regatta

Every year in July, groups of friends and work colleagues in Australia's northern city of Darwin work for weeks to assemble boats from empty beer or soft drink cans. The boats are then displayed on the city's Mindil Beach before being being raced to the uproarious cheers of enthusiastic onlookers. Sand castle making and a thong throwing competition are also part of this thoroughly Australian day out.
