Tibetan Lama Dance
The community of Khampagar in eastern Tibet was a centre for traditional arts until the Chinese invasion in the 1950s. Much of the community relocated to Tashi Jong in northern India, where they have worked for decades to revive these traditions, including the practice of lama dancing. Each year in spring, the monks of the monastery enact three days of ritual dances in honour of Padmasambhava, the founding guru of Tibetan Buddhism, using costumes made by themselves with patterns brought from Tibet.
